Tarshay & Leah’s Story
Tarshay is the mother of a delightful 11 year old girl, Leah. Leah has suffered from Sickle Cell Anemia (disease) since birth. Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) or Sickle Cell Anemia (SCA) or drepanocytosis, is a hereditary blood disorder, characterized by red blood cells that assume an abnormal, rigid, sickle shape.
The terms “sickle cell crisis” or “sickling crisis” may be used to describe several independent acute conditions occurring in patients with sickle cell disease. Most episodes of sickle cell crises last between five and seven days.
